Google Suggestion Keywords Before Organic Serps
Today I noticed something searching for “web conferencing.” The Google has decided to move suggestions of other searches before the organic listings even start. I don’t know if this feature will be rolled out permanently, but it will have dire effects for affiliates and SEOs alike.
Screen Shot Below:
How would this change benefit Google?
20% of searches are unique. If you are a PPC affiliate a good strategy is to create a database and combine it with keywords to capture these unique searches or more long tail and cheaper queries. Now a searcher instead of thinking of a random long tail search query will be funneled into one of the queries suggested. I will wager that those queries which are more head terms will also cost A LOT more for every click.
For SEO this is total BS. Google is basically saying if you don’t find what you are looking for in the PAID listings you may want to search again. Before the searcher even has time to evaluate the organic results he is already forced to reconsider his query. Imagine battling for that top spot just to loose tons of traffic because the Google tells the searcher that the keyword is not something they are looking for.
Total BS.

Yeah I noticed that this particular issue has been a point of discussion in alot of businesses. The search-in-search approach. Personally, all direct keywords are expensive. I would recommend using different strategies to optimize for the search-in-search queries asap as they are going to get expensive. But one thing to note is that long-tail will always be good for a ‘footprint’.
Regards,
i too agree its going to divert all traffic to top keywords - hell lots of competition its kinda DoS for keywords :P
