Google Search Sucks Fate is in YOUR Hands

Finally this blog ranks for the term I was going after “google sucks” and has been bringing in a steady stream of traffic. The problem is when I started this blog I did not have a clear view of where I was planning to go with it. In fact it started as a place for me to vent about some of the hypocritical Google activity I saw around me.

I have been reading about how to create a blog that ads value to the readers. Don’t get me wrong I think there is value in raising awareness and most importantly questions regarding the Google. However, I want to take this blog one step further and offer something back to the readers.

Help me sculpt this blog into a community resource. Read some of my thoughts below and please leave a comment with your feedback or suggestions.

Who are my readers? I have been wondering for some time who are my readers. When someone types in google sucks what are they looking to find? Two theories:

  • People suffering from search fatigue who simply type in the query out of frustration
  • Small business owners/ webmasters frustrated with AdWords or lack of traffic to their online properties
  • People who are starting to take notice of the Googles growth and concerns about privacy and future of the internet
  • SEOs or online marketers who follow the Google closely looking for a voice that isn’t pro Google

Based on this exercise I believe there are three main directions this blog can go. It would be great to address all three entrants, unfortunately when the purpose of the blog is not clear it will be difficult to add value to entrants and grow over time. In other words its better to connect with one group of people rather than try a shotgun effect that often times does little but confuse visitors.

Google News and Updates - This blog can turn into a forum to explore the Google activity and make sure they stay ethical and do not abuse their power. This blog would turn into a resource for those who are looking for researched, albeit sometimes biased, content regarding Google activity.

Search Better -  Since I started in online marketing I have improved the way I search dramatically. I believe I can turn this blog into an opportunity to teach people how to search better and find what they are looking for quicker. This would be mainly targeted at people who are not extremely net savvy. Some topics can include

  • understanding what is spam, affiliates, and ads
  • advanced search queries.
  • Google alternatives
  • strengths of various search engines
  • how to use directories
  • how to leverage the blogosphere

Online Marketing Blog - Since this is the field I am in, I can simply turn this blog into an online marketing blog. The problem with that is the market is pretty saturated and there are far better resources than myself. At the same time, I do have valuable information to offer and would not mind teaching others about online marketing.

Please leave me your thoughts and comments.

I really like what you are doing! I think google sucks because they banned my blog from showing in their blog search results. I am not sure why really? Maybe because I am promoting another search engine becides google? Maybe Blogger moderators are google biased? I don’t really know. But I have realized that google really does suck.

I particularly like the theories you have highlighted, particularly in relation to the power of google and the stranglehold and control they have over mush of the internet, Iset up my blog (googlesucksblog.com) out of sheer frustration, i wanted to vent my anger and concerns about the influence that google have, which began when godaddy (who suck also) blocked my entire cash parking portfolio on account of 2 domains that google disapproved of and blocked.

It seems to me that most website owners are affraid to speak up for fear of google retribution and the impact it may have on their search results.

I wanted to rant and rave but then decided that i might be influencing posts that others might wish to add so have decided to stay as impartial as possible so that others may add their views and concerns.

I doubt that my blog will ever take off as it wont get into search results but feel we should keep plugging away at the omnipotent google.

when i type a search request” calgary based trucking companies” and the first 20 listings have only 2 references to trucking, neither of which is within 1000 miles of calgary, nor even in the same country even though i selected sites from canada, i am easily convinced that artificial intelligence describes the intellect of those who program these search engines. people askme why, if i’m so smart, why aren’t i rich?, to which i reply, if google people are so rich, why aren’t they smart?

I am seeking people with Google Horror Stories to post on my site http://www.googlehorrorstories.net. The purpose of my site is to build a repository of first hand experiences that will travel the Net to eventually put pressure on the big G to resolve some of thier most basic problems. The more people who get involved and the more people who syndicate the articles the better chance we have of making a difference. Please feel free to post your article today!

I typed in “google sucks” in Google out of frustration and got this site. When I started using Google back in 1999, the search engine was based on relavance, not on page ranking or advertising. Every year since then, Google has gotten worse and worse. It has gotten to the point that about 55% of my searches lead to completely irrelevant advertising related results. Google needs to understand that most people don’t give a damn about advertising and only want information that they seek. And now Google has initiated that ridiculous and annoying query suggestion that you can only turn off in the preferences section. And why did they do that? Because they want to sell advertising to people who buy those suggestion keywords and who knows, people’s search histories to sell. It’s disgusting. We don’t need no stinking search suggestions. People prefer to do their own research their own way thank you very much.

@ Giuseppe

Sorry to hear you are this frustrated. I understand completely and that is why I started this blog. I am working on creating a manual to help people search better and avoid the endless hours spend on Google.

I thought I was the only renegade out there hating google, and it’s great to see that others, like you, are already way ahead of me and paving the way to a new google-less era. This is how it starts. Pretty soon everyone will know that GOOGLE SUCKS!
