Google Position on Microsoft Acquisition of Yahoo
What the hell is going on in the search world. Microsoft is trying to take over Yahoo! At first I had the same reaction as everyone else, Microsoft the kind of Monopolies making a bid on the number two player in the US search share OH NO. Well the more I thought about it and the more I read, the more I realized that this would not be such a bad thing.
This move by Microsoft will help create a valid competitor to Google. If you do not believe me explain why their stock dropped to a four year low? Google is scared it finally realized that it can’t keep up with the facade of being your friend while slowly creeping into every aspect of your online use, not to mention offline.
Google is getting scared so they released this official statement on Google’s position on Microsoft and Yahoo
Lets read this official statement and see how hypocritical it is.
First of all I like their use of framing “…Microsoft’s hostile bid for Yahoo! raises troubling questions…” Basically they are already making this bid seem like something that is awful.
It’s about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.
Talk about openness and innovation, last time I checked Google is king of not making things transparent. Unless you are in the search industry how many people know that Google killed off a potential cottage industry (link buying) or that they created a quality score which is confusing and ultimately kills of small businesses trying to market online? How many people know their results are being changed when they are logged in?
__________has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies — and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets.
What company do you think fits in the blank. Google trying to move to television and radio… sounds like they leverage their presence to move to adjacent markets. I will not say Microsoft isn’t guilty, but do not go around pointing fingers while you practice the same thing.
Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email, IM, and web-based services?
How could Google just go and throw around such assumptions. Would they prefer that people used Google from gmail, to documents, to their search and stay within their massive network. Is it not enough that AdSense is the most used content advertising.
I know this post is a bit of a rant, but I just can’t stand how Google continues to use its bubbly image to hide its true intentions.
Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
Remember Google is a for profit organization and what they are really trying to say is they are trying to organize all available information about you, your desires, and your insecurities, and make those available to the worlds advertisers.

Awesome post!
Google is certainly out of control with no corporate morals whatsoever.
What is most egregious for me is the amount of plagiarism of my research articles that goes on in the name of Adwords $. Google will place these plagiarized articles higher in search than my original content while my originals are often no where to be found.
What proves the dishonesty on Googles part is that this is NOT a problem on Yahoo or MSN.
I can go on, however if interested please read more here:

You should consider Ask.com as a search engine.
It certainly seems that while Google has a seeming monopoly on search and has successfully disintermediated a number of industries, it is at the same time against another force having the power it enjoys.
What are they really scared of?
Competition.
Google has a monopoly on search because they innovated and thought outside of the box, building a lot of their own hardware and software. It’s all custom stuff. Microsoft just buys up companies and technology. That’s all they have ever done. Whenever they attempt to create anything their own, they start out with something that’s complete crap and finally (maybe) get right or more right after countless releases patches and service packs. Its not google’s fault microsoft and msn search sucks, it’s their own fault.
MS could buy yahoo and still not compete against google. Google is now a household name just like nintendo was in the 80’s and 90′. The only way MS could offer serious competition to google is if they tap into their desktop monopoly.
Have you heard of Adobe Air, well Microsoft is looking to launch something similar . These technologies allow for seamless integration of online and desktop applications. Imagine if Microsoft can get back that search market share and bundle it with their desktop offerings. Umm yes that will be a serious competitor to stupid Google.
“These technologies allow for seamless integration of online and desktop applications.”
I think I already admitted that would be one way to do it. Their desktop applications run on their (OS) desktop, which they have a monopoly on. Meanwhile google has already launched their web apps which has online integration too. Granted, not as sophisticated as the features you get in office say, but it’s also cheaper and system agnostic.
Hey! Google’s search is great. Even though I always use Google I still am a HUGE Microsoft fan!
