5 Search Trends in 2008 You Should Know About

I would like to apologize for not writing more often, unlike most bloggers I still have a 9 to 5 job which leaves little time for research and writing quality content. In addition, I have been working on several side projects that have been keeping me up till the wee hours of the night.

Anyway, I decided to write this post to put down all of my predictions for 2008. I can’t wait to look at this list a year from now to see how much of it came to fruition and how much of it was straight up wrong.

Here we go 5 search tends for 2008 that you should know about.

Yahoo makes a strong comeback - I am not exactly sure how this will happen, whether they let MSN buy them out which would create a legitimate contender to Google, or they figure out the right mix between a portal and a search engine, but I feel the underdog will be back.

Spammers find a new way to Game the System - Contrary to what Google thinks, there will always be a way to game the system. As long as there is money to be made, there are plenty of smart people who will find an easy way to profit from it. After it has run their course they will probably release a e-book about it which will saturate the market with the new technique and cause Google to take notice and put a stop to it. And so the cycle will continue.

More vertical channels that will take search away from Google - As new websites come out that serve as a starting destination (ie wikipedia) less searches will be done through  Google Search.

Discovery channels continue to rise - What do Digg, Delicious, and Stumble Upon all have in common? They bring back the joy of discovering something new. I think these channels will continue to rise in popularity both as a time waster and as a way to find content that may otherwise go undiscovered through a typical Google search.

Google Search Sucks will rank number one on google for “google sucks” -  Maybe this is just my dream, but this site just does not rank on Google for any of the terms I am going after. MSN and Yahoo! I appear on the first page. Hopefully if this site gets more popular Google will have no choice but to rank it.

Google has sucked since before it was famous. Anyone that uses just one search engine deserves it tho!
